Refund Policy
Effective April 30, 2026
Scope
This refund policy applies to contributions made to either of the two affiliated nonprofit corporations:
- The Right to Honest Governance Institute — a California nonprofit public benefit corporation (EIN 41-4546412) organized under section 501(c)(3); federal tax-exempt recognition application in preparation. Deductibility of contributions is conditional on the IRS granting recognition retroactive to incorporation.
- The Right to Honest Government Action — a California nonprofit mutual benefit corporation (EIN 41-4784643) operating as a 501(c)(4). Contributions are not tax-deductible as charitable contributions for federal income tax purposes (IRC § 6113).
Requesting a refund
If you made a contribution in error, or if you wish to request a refund for any other reason, contact the corresponding entity within thirty (30) days of the contribution date with the following information:
- Your full name as it appeared on the contribution
- The email address used for the contribution
- Contribution date and amount
- Transaction or receipt ID, if available
- Brief reason for the refund request
How refunds are processed
Approved refunds are issued to the original payment method through our payment processor. Payment processors typically post refunds within 5–10 business days, though timing depends on the issuing bank.
For tax-deductible contributions to the C3, if a written acknowledgment was issued and the contribution is later refunded, the refund will be reflected in our records and the donor should not claim a deduction for the refunded amount.
When refunds may be unavailable
Refunds may not be available when a contribution has already been spent, transferred, or otherwise processed in a way that makes a refund administratively or legally impractical (for example, restricted funds that have already been disbursed for their stated purpose).
Recurring contributions can be cancelled at any time using the cancellation link in the most recent acknowledgment email or by contacting the entity below. Cancellation stops future contributions but does not automatically refund prior contributions; refunds for prior contributions follow this policy.
Disputes and chargebacks
If you have a concern about a contribution, contact us first. We will respond promptly and work to resolve the issue. Initiating a chargeback through the card network without first contacting us may delay resolution and incur fees that come out of the entity's budget for its mission.
